“Babyn Sugar” is to build gigantic biogas energy park
20.09.2009 “Babyn Sugar” sugar plant finished project development stage of biogas plant. The phase of project coordination with local authorities commenced. As it was announced earlier “ZORG Ukraine” acts as a general project developer and general contractor for biogas energy park in Babyn, Ukraine. The contract was signed between sugar plant owner “INSECO” and “ZORG Ukraine” in May 2009.
Construction will be performed during 2 years in several stages. First stage assumes construction of biogas plant consisting of 3 digesters with biogas output capacity 4 mil. m3 per year. 27 digesters will be added afterwards.
Energy Park will work during 2 seasons per year. Babinsk sugar plant wastes will be used as feed stock during 100 days, which is 3600 tons per day of sugar beet pulp. The rest of the time 800 tons per day of corn silage will be used as feed stock. The land area required for corn cropping ia 5000 hectares.
Biogas will be treated to quality of natural gas under GOST standard and fed into the Ukrainian gas transporting system. Overall capacity of the Energy park will make 40 mil. m3 of biogas per year. Net cost of upgraded gas will be 30$ for 1000 m3.
In general "INSECO" has ambitious plans to increase natural gas production up to 1 billion m3 per year within next 5-7 years.
This project is considered to be big even on international scale. Thousands of biogas plant are working worldwide but only 10 of them of that size.
