Semi-enclosed gas flare FAII 300 DN80

Application
FAII 300 is a semi-enclosed gas flare for controlled disposal of surplus gas during maintenance or shutdown of a CHP unit or other gas-consuming equipment. Automatic flare startup allows gas that cannot currently be used for energy production to be burned. The model selection range is 200–310 Nm³/h; the operating point is agreed for the gas composition and inlet pressure.
Flow, pressure and dimensions
Operating point: 300 Nm³/h at an inlet gauge pressure of 35 mbar. Overall height: 4,848 mm; chamber diameter: 796 mm. Chamber height: 2,500 mm. Dimensions refer to the standard semi-enclosed configuration.
Suitable gases
The flare is selected for biogas, biomethane, landfill gas and other methane-based gases. For hydrogen blends, the permitted H₂ fraction is agreed for the selected burners, valves and protection. Stated flows and pressures refer to the reference design gas; changes in composition require confirmation of the operating characteristic.
Semi-enclosed design
The burners sit inside a vertical metal shroud that shields the combustion zone from precipitation and external influences. Under optimum conditions, most of the flame remains inside, but it may extend above the upper rim. This must be considered when locating the flare. The model suits sites where semi-enclosed combustion is permitted; a different design is selected if a fully concealed flame is required.
Burners and materials
Injector burners mix gas with primary air before combustion. Secondary air enters naturally from below; the air supply is adjusted during commissioning. This supports stable combustion within the agreed operating range. Replaceable burner heads simplify maintenance. Gas-contact parts are made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, and the support structure is AISI 304 stainless steel.
Automatic operation
A start command initiates the valve-opening and electric ignition sequence. A UV sensor continuously monitors the flame. If ignition fails or the flame goes out, the controls stop the gas supply and follow the specified restart sequence or signal a fault. Low-pressure protection prevents operation with insufficient gas pressure. Automatic shut-off valves close on loss of electrical power.
Gas connection
One external DN80 gas inlet. DN is the nominal connection size, not the pipe outside diameter. Inlet position, mating flange and supply-pipe route are agreed using the installation drawing. A condensate drain with a manual ball valve is provided. The supply pipeline is designed for the flow, available pressure and condensate removal. Burner assembly: 4 DN65 injectors.
Control
The IP66 control panel contains a burner control unit and Profinet/Profibus communication modules for connection to the external biogas plant PLC. It provides local operation, status indication, and remote start and control from the plant PLC. The external PLC is not included in the supply. Power supply: 230 V, 50 Hz. Automatic starting based on gas-line pressure is available as an additional function.
Optional configurations
Options include a pilot burner, valve heating and insulation, temperature monitoring, a stainless-steel control panel and a version for elevated H₂S levels. Chamber heat resistance and operating duty are agreed separately for prolonged or continuous use. Pneumatic valves require dry compressed air; a compressor is provided where necessary. Cold-climate equipment is selected for the site's minimum temperature.
Installation and selection
The flare is installed vertically on a prepared foundation and secured as shown in the installation drawing. Earthing, access to valves and the control panel, and adequate clearance around the combustion zone are required. Selection considers minimum and maximum flow, methane and hydrogen sulphide content, gas pressure and operating periods. Foundation, supply connections, delivery and installation are agreed separately from the equipment package.
