Activated carbon filter ACF-5000-Comfort DN300

This activated carbon filter for biogas is designed for the final stage of biogas desulfurization and H₂S removal. It provides fine purification of pretreated biogas, typically reducing residual hydrogen sulfide from 50–200 ppm to near-zero levels before the gas is supplied to CHP engines or other downstream equipment.

The filter has a 10.0 m³ activated carbon bed and holds up to 5,000 kg of activated carbon. The large carbon capacity provides efficient hydrogen sulfide removal and long operating intervals. When used for final H₂S polishing, activated carbon replacement is typically required only once every 1–2 years, depending on gas quality and operating conditions.

The biogas H₂S filter is designed for flow rates up to 2,000 m³/h and is equipped with 2 × DN300/PN10 gas connections. Pressure loss through the activated carbon bed is approximately 300–500 Pa (3–5 mbar). Operating gas temperature is 0–50°C, with maximum positive pressure of 200 mbar and negative pressure of -50 mbar.

Hydrogen sulfide is removed by catalytic chemical sorption using impregnated activated carbon. A minimum oxygen concentration of 0.4% is specified for the process.

The vessel and sieve bottom are manufactured from stainless steel 1.4571 (V4A) for corrosion resistance in biogas applications. The vessel is approximately 2,250 mm in diameter and 4,500 mm high.

The Comfort version stands on three support legs, providing additional clearance beneath the vessel for easier discharge and replacement of spent activated carbon. Fresh carbon is loaded through the Ø500 mm top manhole, while spent carbon is removed through the side emptying manhole. A ladder with fall protection provides access to the upper section.

Three gas sampling points allow operators to monitor H₂S breakthrough through the activated carbon bed. Condensate drainage and inerting connections are also provided.

As the final stage of a biogas purification system, the filter helps protect CHP engines, catalytic converters and heat exchangers against sulfur-related corrosion and damage.

With 5,000 kg activated carbon capacity, 10 m³ carbon volume, stainless steel construction and DN300 connections, the unit is suitable for biogas purification, H₂S removal, hydrogen sulfide removal, biogas desulfurization, activated carbon filtration and final biogas polishing.
