Fe Concentrate for H₂S removal

Iron hydroxide concentrate is a source of reactive iron based on Fe(OH)₃, intended for efficient hydrogen sulphide removal directly in the digester of a biogas plant.

The product contains 90% dry matter, which ensures high reaction efficiency and minimal reagent consumption.

Principle of H₂S removal
Active iron reacts directly in the substrate:
Fe(OH)₃ + H₂S → FeS ↓ + H₂O

It forms:
insoluble iron sulphide which prevents the re-formation of hydrogen sulphide in the biogas.

Why a high dry matter content is important
High dry matter concentration (>90%) reduces transport cost per unit of active iron. In Fe Concentrate 35-37% active material. 

Advantages of Fe Concentrate:

  • lower transport costs
  • fast H₂S reduction effect
  • operation directly in the digester
  • no corrosive impact, safer than FeCl₃
  • does not affect the biological process
  • reduces load on activated carbon filters

Typical dosage 0,8 kg / t substrate. Depends on:

  • H₂S concentration
  • process temperature
  • substrate type
  • organic loading rate

Example
For a 1MW electric power 100% maize silage-based biogas plant or 4 tpd biomethane per day the usage is 40 kg/day on the constant basis.  With the usage of the iron hydroxide in the biogas reactor the sulphur level in biogas is reduced from 1500-2000 ppm to 60-80 ppm.
